Funk is “soul” music consisting with a greater emphasis on beats, and the genre is influenced by rhythm, blues, jazz, and psychedelic rock, in addition, it first originated from R&B in the late 1950’s. Funk became popular in the 60’s and 70’s. A key thing that defined “funk” songs were the melodic bass lines that accompanied all the coinciding rhythms, which separated from genres like R&B, soul, hip hop, and African Americans influenced genres. Hard, complicated rhythms made up this genre called “funk” and this distinction separated it from soul. In the late 70’s rock died down, but had a grand comeback in the 90’s with innovative new rock bands and hip hop artists. Now, funk is a mixture of R&B and hip hop, but still had the strong bass lines that make the songs “stank”, like funk. "Out of Sight"By: James Brown and The Famous Flames
